I can’t believe it’s been nearly two months since I left for Remote Year (I’m currently spending a year living in 12 countries across SE Asia, Europe and South America)! Several times a day it hits me and I’ll think “I live in Vietnam – WTF”. Every single aspect of my life has changed in just a matter of weeks including:

  • Quitting my job as the executive director of a non-profit to work for myself full time (scary as hell but liberating beyond words)
  • Getting rid of nearly all my belongings (I’m now a minimalist living out of a backpack and just 1 suitcase)
  • Selling my car and now my absolute favorite mode of transportation is uberMOTO (I never want to take cabs again!)

Ironically over the past few months people have used a lot of words to describe my “big leap” including brave, inspirational and fearless. What people don’t know is that most days I feel like a total fraud (hello imposter syndrome!) who is days away from getting kicked off this trip. I don’t come from a wealthy family, I don’t have a backup plan – I like to say I’ve “burned the boats” – and I’m literally figuring out this entrepreneur thing one freaking day at a time. No matter what it looks like from the outside there’s been one thing I’ve been too afraid to do:

Put myself out there as an entrepreneur

My business coach Rosetta has a journal prompt where we ask ourselves:

“If I knew my success was guaranteed I would…”

If I knew my success (as a candidacy coach, trainer and consultant) was guaranteed I would stop:

  • hiding
  • giving a shit what other people thought
  • and giving away my brilliance for free (or not charging what I’m worth)

I spend soooo much time encouraging other black women to stand in their power and to embrace their brilliance that it’s time for me to finally do the same. That’s why I’m reaching out with a personal request:

I’m taking on new clients and need your help.

In addition to providing one on one coaching to current + future candidates I’m also available to take on new consulting clients with organizations and companies who share my mission of changing the face of power and getting more women of color into elected office. If you (or someone you know) might be in need of my services can you hit reply on this email and let me know? I’d love to set up a quick phone call or video chat to talk about next steps. For those who might not be familiar with me they can visit my website at www.rebeccamthompson.com or check out my podcast here!

P.S. What’s one thing you’d do right now if you knew your success was guaranteed? I wanna hear about that too!
